Have I Truly Surrendered?

“Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.” (Romans 6:13, ESV) Have I come to Christ for forgiveness, yet quietly kept certain corners of my life under lock and key?

Paul, in Romans 6, addresses a question that lingers in every generation: If grace abounds, can we remain as we were? His answer is clear. Those brought from death to life are called to walk in that newness, leaving the old ways behind.

Paul urges us to offer ourselves to God, not in part, but wholly. The life Christ has redeemed is not ours to keep hidden. It is meant to be surrendered, day by day.

In ministry, I have met many who quietly carry the same burdens year after year. It grieves me, not in judgment, but because Scripture calls us again and again to repentance and surrender.

There is a sobering warning about treating the blood of Christ as something common. He paid the highest price for our freedom. How can we settle for the chains He came to break?

If you have walked with me for any length of time, you know these themes, repentance and surrender, are never far from my lips. They are woven into the very heart of the Gospel.

So we must ask ourselves, honestly and without haste:

How can we ask God to free us from what we still cling to with closed hands?

Repentance is a turning. Surrender is a yielding. Both are our answer to the grace that found us.

Transformation is a journey. We stumble, we struggle. But there is a world of difference between fighting sin and making peace with it.

God’s grace gives us strength to overcome. Yet He calls us to respond, to open our hands and surrender what we have kept hidden.

As you step into this week, ask the Lord to reveal what you may still be holding on to. Bring it to Him in honest repentance. Yield it, and trust Him to lead you forward.

Christ has brought us from death to life. Let us walk as children of the light.

Shalom, Jacques
