The One Who Stays

“Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.” (Joshua 1:5, ESV) Rejection cuts deeper than most wounds. It leaves a mark on the soul. We have all walked this path. A friend turns away. A loved one withdraws. A spouse’s affection grows cold. Even in the workplace, we may feel set aside.

Often, the deepest wounds come from those whose love we treasure most. Scars from rejection linger. They make us question our worth and fear that love will not last.

Here, the enemy finds his foothold. He whispers that we are unwanted. He feeds the lie that we are unworthy of love.

Yet God’s Word stands when every human promise fails.

When Moses died, Joshua stood at the edge of the unknown. His leader was gone. The future was heavy with challenge. In that wilderness of uncertainty, God spoke His presence over Joshua.

“I will not leave you or forsake you.”

This is a promise that steadies the heart. God’s promise to Joshua was for his calling, but Hebrews 13:5 echoes it for us. The Lord’s faithfulness endures.

Jesus Himself walked the road of rejection. He was turned away by His own. Betrayed by a friend. He knows the wounds we carry.

Yet Jesus gives us this extraordinary assurance in John 6:37:

“whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”

And after His resurrection, as He commissioned His disciples, He promised:

“I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 (ESV)

Pause and let that settle in your heart. People may turn away. Relationships may crumble. Trust may break in ways we never expected.

But the Lord who receives us in Christ remains faithful.

He knows your pain. He sees the wounds no one else can. His presence is the strength that helps you rise and walk on.

As you step into this week, you may carry the weight of rejection from someone dear. Bring that hurt to the Lord. Let His Word confront the lies that rejection has planted in your heart.

Remember, your worth is anchored in the One who made you and redeemed you.

Whatever rejection you face, hold fast to the One who will never let you go.

Shalom, Jacques
