Nearer Than Strength

Romans 8:29 (ESV)
“For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.”

Fifteen years have passed since Christ called me out of darkness. Even now, after years in ministry, I have known seasons when my spirit felt empty, more often than I care to confess.

Not long ago, I sensed my cup running dry. Faith remained. Prayer continued. The truth of Scripture still held me. Yet beneath it all, I longed for more than strength; I longed for nearness to Christ Himself.

Pastor Francis Frangipane writes, “The antidote for spiritual emptiness is the pursuit of Christlikeness.” That truth speaks deeply to me.

Romans 8:29 calls us to a single purpose: to be shaped into the likeness of Jesus. This is not only for those in ministry. It is for every place where life presses us, at home, in our relationships, in disappointment, and in the silent struggles no one else sees.

Spiritual emptiness often comes when we carry burdens or pour ourselves out in our own strength. Christ does not simply refill us to keep us moving. He draws us close, so His life can be formed more deeply within.

To become like Jesus is to let His humility soften our hearts, His love steady our steps, His patience shape our waiting, and His obedience guide our path. Here, the soul finds life again.

As we walk into this week, let us seek Christ above every task and every pressure. Let our prayer be simple: Lord Jesus, shape me into Your likeness.

Shalom, Jacques

The Law of Love

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37 to 40. This passage brings us straight back to the heart of faithful living: love.
