The Measure We Use

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.”
Matthew 7:1 to 2 (ESV)

Jesus does not ask us to ignore truth, or to pretend that right and wrong are lost. His words reach deeper. He calls us out of the quick, cold spirit that glances at another and forgets how much grace we still require.

Judgment steals peace from our homes, churches, and friendships. It makes us swift to measure others, slow to search our own hearts before God. But Jesus offers a better path. He invites us to pause, to turn inward first, and to let mercy guide our vision.

We rarely know the full weight another person carries. We see the moment, or observe the journey from a distance, but God sees the full story. We notice the fault, but God knows the wound, the struggle, the fear, and the hidden battle behind it.

This does not mean we turn from sin or leave truth behind. It means we approach others with humility, remembering the same Lord who corrects us also carries us. The measure we use matters. A harsh spirit multiplies heaviness. A gracious spirit opens the door to peace, healing, and restoration.

This week, let us ask the Lord to soften our eyes before we look at others. May He help us spend less energy judging, and more time walking humbly before Him. In our families, friendships, churches, and communities, let us choose mercy where we can, truth with gentleness, and grace as those who have received grace.

Shalom, Jacques

The Law of Love

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37 to 40. This passage brings us straight back to the heart of faithful living: love.
