We Are All One Body

“In the human body, there are many parts and organs, each with a unique function. And so it is in the body of Christ. For though we are many, we’ve all been mingled into one body in Christ. This means that we are all vitally joined to one another, with each contributing to the others.”(Romans 12:4 to 5) [TPT] This week, let this picture reshape how you see the Church, not as separate camps, but as one living Body across the world.

Paul’s words expose two dangers: division and pride. We guard our own circles, forgetting the greater Body. We treat other believers as optional, as if Christ’s Church could be divided by our preferences. But the Spirit calls us to something deeper: one Body, one Spirit, one Lord, one hope. In a fractured world, this unity is not optional. It is our witness.

Unity does not erase difference. The body needs every part. Eyes do not compete with hands. Hearts do not despise feet. Each member carries dignity and purpose, assigned by God. When we honour the gifts of others, we honour the wisdom of Christ, our Head.

After a long delay, I finally watched the short docuseries “Jonathan and Jesus,” following Jonathan Roumie of The Chosen. As someone shaped in a Protestant mould, I found it surprisingly moving. Through voices as varied as Pope Francis and Alice Cooper, the series kept returning to one theme: Jesus still draws people together across backgrounds, traditions, and struggles. He invites us to see through a different lens, and to ask what surrender to God might change in us.

Let this be our heart check. Where have we drawn lines between us” and them”? What would Jesus do with our suspicion and distance? This week, pray for another congregation. Bless a believer outside your circle. Honour the unity Christ has given.

Let's step into this week with a resolve to strengthen the Body, not shrink it. Let your words and actions build up, not divide.

Shalom, JM

The Law of Love

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37 to 40. This passage brings us straight back to the heart of faithful living: love.
