Behold Your Humble King

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9 ESV Palm Sunday draws us back to the humility of our Lord. Jesus entered Jerusalem quietly, not with spectacle or force, but in the gentle fulfilment of prophecy.

The King came lowly. The Saviour arrived, riding on a donkey.

He could have come in blazing glory, surrounded by angels. He could have silenced every voice with power. Instead, He chose meekness. He chose peace. He chose humility. This was not weakness, but strength surrendered to the Father.

This was no accident. God had spoken it long before. Jesus revealed Himself as King, but not the king many expected. He did not come as a conqueror on a war horse. He came as the Prince of Peace. His kingdom would be built not by force, but by surrender, obedience, sacrifice, and love.

Philippians tells us that He “emptied himself” and took “the form of a servant” (Phil. 2:7). Peter reminds us that when He suffered, “he did not threaten” (1 Pet. 2:23). Hebrews shows us the Son who did not exalt Himself, but walked the path the Father had appointed, offering up prayers with tears and learning obedience through suffering (Heb. 5:5 to 8).

What a Saviour. What a King.

Jesus did not only speak of humility. He lived it. True greatness bows before God, serves others, and trusts the Father’s hand.

As Holy Week begins, let us do more than admire Christ’s humility. Let us walk in it. Lay down pride. Lay down the need to be seen. Choose surrender. Choose obedience. Trust quietly.

May the humble King shape our hearts, so that we walk this week reflecting His beauty, His meekness, and His peace.

Shalom, Jacques
